Depending on your needs, your hair type and the size of your wallet, different extension methods are possible. Basically you should ask yourself the following questions before buying:

• Do you want a hair extension or a hair thickening?
• Do you want to wear hair extensions permanently or stay flexible?
• Do you have rather thin or thick hair?
• How much do you want to spend on it?

Basically you should not only pay attention to the price of the extension methods. This is especially true if you want a long-term change (for many months or several years). Cheap hair simply breaks down quickly and therefore needs to be replaced more often. You should only consider artificial hair if you have a very small budget and if you are looking for a short-term method. With Clip-ins for example, you can achieve beautiful results with synthetic hair at a reasonable price.

Pay attention to the hair quality

Before we look at the different extension methods in detail, here is a short and concise overview of the advantages and disadvantages of Tape extensions, Bondings, Microrings, Clip-ins and Softclick Extensions.

Extensions Method 1 - Tape Extensions

Tape Extensions werden ins Eigenhaar geklebt. Das klingt im ersten Moment seltsam, gilt unter den langfristigen Extensions Methoden jedoch als schonendste und gesündeste Variante – lange vor Bondings,  Microrings und Clip-Ins.  An den Tape Extensions sind Klebestreifen angebracht, die am Ansatz des Eigenhaars eingesetzt werden. Häufig wird das Einsetzen von Tape Extensions auch als „Sandwich Methode“ bezeichnet, da die Eigenhaarsträhnen zwischen den beiden Klebestreifen liegen – wie bei einem Sandwich.

Tape extensions are removed by applying a special adhesive remover to the sandwich and loosening the extension adhesive. Good Tape Extensions can also be reused multiple times. The closure can be easily reattached. Make sure that only remy human hair is used. This increases the duration of use enormously.

For whom are tape extensions suitable?

Tape Extensions sind grundsätzlich für jeden Haartypen geeignet. Im Vergleich zur eher auffälligen Extensions Methode des Microringings und den etwas breiteren Bonding Verschlüssen, sind die Haarverbindungen sehr flach. Dies sorgt dafür, dass sie auch bei sehr feinem und dünnem Haar kaum sichtbar sind. Sie gelten außerdem als besonders schonend und verhindern das Abbrechen der Haare. Daher sind sie auch bei bereits strapaziertem oder brüchigem Haar zu empfehlen.

Cost and durability of tape extensions

Bei Tapes sollte immer auf eine hohe Haarqualität geachtet werden. Während minderwertige Tapes nur 1-3 Mal wiederverwendet werden können, können gute Extensions bis zu 7 Mal eingesetzt werden. Sie kosten somit im ersten Moment mehr, halten jedoch deutlich länger, wodurch du Geld sparst. Extensions Method 2 - Bondings

Bondings, also known as hot-fusion or U-tip extensions, are considered the most durable but also the most expensive method. They are applied without gluing or clip closure. Bonding Extensions come with a small solid platelet of wax or keratin, the main component of human hair, at the base. The platelets are softened with heat tongs or ultrasound and then welded to the base of the wearer. Between 100-150 extension strands are used. The exact number of bondings required depends primarily on the wearer's own hair structure.

For whom are bondings suitable?

Bondings are particularly suitable if you want a change that lasts as long as possible. They can stay in the hair for up to four months with fine hair and up to six months with normal hair. Then they are removed. High-quality bondings can also be reused and reapplied, but that's a very challenging task for hairdressers, therefore very expensive and often not possible, due to damaged joints. Bondings are not suitable for already damaged or very fine hair. Bondings can lead to the breaking off of the own hair and are not recommended in the long run. Another point you should consider is the comparatively high price.

How much do Bondings cost?

Bondings sind die teuerste unter den Extensions Methoden. Für Haarverlängerungen muss mit einem Preis zwischen 500 Euro und 1500 Euro gerechnet werden. Das liegt vor allem daran, dass extrem viele Strähnen vom Friseur angebracht werden müssen, wodurch der Salonbesuch viele Stunden dauert, die natürlich bezahlt werden müssen. Haarverdichtungen kosten je nach Anbieter und Menge zwischen 200 Euro und 500 Euro. Achte unbedingt darauf, dass Remy Echthaar verwendet wird. Günstige Non-Remy-Haare sind nicht geeignet, da die Bondings lange im Haar bleiben und daher Einiges aushalten müssen. Das erneute Hochsetzen der Extensions beläuft sich je nach Friseur auf 350 – 500 Euro.

Extensions Method 3 - Microrings

In this method, individual thin strands are threaded through 3 millimeter wide metal rings, which are pushed up to the hairline. Extension strands are then clamped under the rings before the microrings are closed with special pliers. This method also works without glue, wax or keratin.

Allerdings sind die Verbindungsstellen auffälliger als bei alternativen Extensions Methoden und ziemlich strapazierend für die Haare. Bei dieser Extensions Methode bricht das Eigenhaar vergleichsweise schnell oder reisst aus. Es sollte daher unbedingt darauf geachtet werden, dass nicht zu viele oder dicke Strähnen angebracht werden. Für Frauen mit dünnem Haar sind Microrings hingegen eher ungeeignet.

Microrings are especially suitable for women with thick hair who want a change for a few months. You have thin hair? In this case we advise against Microrings, because the metal rings could probably attract attention. In this case it is better to use other extension methods, such as Tape Extensions or Nanorings. Nanorings are significantly smaller and less noticeable. However, the application is more complicated than the insertion of Microrings, since considerably more strands are applied. This means that hairdressers need more time for it and the price in the salon increases.

Cost and durability of Microrings

Microrings are usually cheaper than Bondings, but more expensive than Tape Extensions. This is partly due to the hairdressing costs that must be expected. Microrings require quite a lot of strands to be applied individually, which of course increases the price for attaching and re-attaching them. With a lot of practice and tact it is also possible to apply the Microrings yourself. In general, we recommend that you leave this task to a professional to get the best results.

Extensions Method 4 - Clip-Ins

Clip-In Extensions are an extension method that works without gluing or welding. Clip-In tresses have a clip attached to the upper end of the hair. The extensions are clipped under the top hair and thus easily attached to the wearer's natural hair. The help of a hairdresser is not necessary for the attachment. With a little practice the clip-ins can be applied by hand and very quickly.

For whom are Clip-Ins suitable?

You want to dress up in the evening and give your hairstyle that certain something? Then you are well advised to use Clip-Ins. They are very popular as a temporary addition, e.g. for updoes or bridal hairstyles. They are not intended as a solution that stays in your hair for several weeks or months at a time. Clip-In Extensions should be removed in the evening, because they can damage your own hair by twisting and turning while sleeping and the fasteners are quite uncomfortable when lying down.

Since usually a lot of weight is attached to the clip closure and it bends off the own hair, Clip-Ins are not optimal for severely damaged hair. Compared to other extension methods, the damage is limited - so don't panic. Softclick Extensions are a good and gentle alternative for extremely damaged or broken hair.

Cost and durability of Clip-Ins

Clip-In Extensions can be found online from about 30 GBP. The decisive factor in the price is of course the hair quality. Synthetic hair is especially cheap and no problem with clip-ins. For high-quality extensions, you should plan on about 90 to 180 GBP for a complete set. The durability of Clip-in Extensions depends strongly on how often they are used and how well you care for them. If the extensions are not worn constantly, a durability of one year or longer is possible.

Extensions Method 5 - Softclick Extensions

Softclick Extensions sind eine Weltneuheit von gobella und als Alternative zu Clip-In Extensions gedacht. Softclick Strähnen werden durch einen dünnen und biegsamen Magnetverschluss ins Eigenhaar geklickt. Die Eigenhaare liegen im Sandwich zwischen der Vorder- und Rückseite des 3 Millimeter dicken und 4cm breiten Verschlusses. Der Magnetverschluss umschließt das Eigenhaar, anstatt es – wie Clip-Ins – einzuklemmen. Softclick Extensions sind für alle geeignet, die sich eine Haarverdichtung oder farbliche Akzente wünschen, die morgens eingesetzt und abends wieder herausgenommen werden. Durch den schonenden Verschluss sind sie die perfekte Clip-In Alternative für TrägerInnen mit strapaziertem oder brüchigem Haar. Für Haarverlängerungen sollte eher auf Clip-Ins ausgewichen werden, da für eine komplette Verlängerung viele Softclick-Strähnen einzeln eingesetzt werden müssen, was einiges an Zeit kostet.

Kosten und Haltbarkeit von Softclick Extensions

Softclick Extensions sind grundsätzlich teurer als Clip-Ins. Der hochwertige Magnetverschluss schont das Eigenhaar, ist in der Herstellung aber natürlich mit höheren Kosten verbunden, was das Produkt hochpreisiger macht. Friseurkosten werden jedoch gespart, da sie ohne fremde Hilfe angebracht werden können. Wie bei den anderen Methoden, hängt die Haltbarkeit von der Haarpflege ab. Werden Softclicks gut gepflegt und nicht ständig getragen, können sie problemlos ein Jahr oder länger verwendet werden.
